If we get a large enough group together the theater will host a free training (required for ushers) in the coming weeks. Ushers will get to see the concert for free and will save the expense of us having to pay the theater to use their ushers. Email Mr. Grantham at jgrantham@pleasanton.k12.ca.us if interested.
*** Traffic Alert Trish Moosbrugger
For safety reasons, please refrain from using the curb lane when buses are present in the Amador parking lot. The students need to have safe access to luggage compartments on both sides of the bus. In addition, the bus drivers need to be able to pull out immediately once the buses are emptied and checked. Parents should pull into a parking spot in any other lane and then locate their student via cell phone.
*** Amador Pride and Marching Competitions AFM Board
Our first competition is in the books. We had a great turn out in Gilroy! We anticipate even more support at Diablo Valley College this Saturday. Our great sea of purple will continue in the stands for BOA and Championships.
For newcomers to the AVHS Marching Band and Colorguard competitions, and for our veterans, we thought it would be helpful to share a few tips and reminders about etiquette in the stands.
DO:
· Be a positive example at all times · Cheer and support all the bands
· Congratulate boosters from other schools who are sitting next to you
· Get seated early · Silence your cell phones
DON'T:
· Make rude or disparaging remarks about other schools · Make noise during a band's performance · Use flash photography · Move around or leave your seat during a performance
Remember, just as we can hear all of the bands, all the students can hear the boosters. Let's make our presence a positive one all around. Louder for Amador is great, but please cheer and support all the students and their boosters on and off the field.
Although the performances take place in an athletic stadium, it is not an athletic event. The performances we have the opportunity to enjoy are the fruits of dedication and purpose to which each of the students on the field have committed countless hours. Please remember to honor and respect each of them and their respective boosters!
There are surely questions about how the competitions are scored. Please refer to How do they calculate those scores? now posted on the band website. http://www.amadorband.org/marching.htm Friends & Family Performance! November 13th 6:30 PM Cindy Gehl
Sometimes getting family and friends to a football game or competition to see the band perform can be difficult. This year the band is going to do their entire show in uniform on Nov. 13 at 6:30 pm. Invite family, friends, neighbors and anyone else you like. Let's see if we can fill the stadium with fans as the students give their last performance before WBA Championships. CPR and First Aid Training November 3rd 10am-1pm in the Choir Room Nancy McGhee
Several RAs have expressed interest in CPR and first aid training. Isabel Papp is a physician's assistant a certified CPR/1st Aid Instructor and will be willing to have a class for any/all who are interested in the Training. (30-40 minute video and 40 minutes to knock out some practice on a mannequin). She will also go over some simple, Band -specific 1st aid type training (i.e.: using an epi pen, applying ice/ace wrap, treating a wound) All will receive a Certified CPR card good for 2 years!! Woo-hoo! Please contact Isabel directly at i.papp@comcast.net to RSVP for this class. All are welcome, even if you are not an RA. Want to Share A Ride? Nancy McGhee
Clayton Newman is looking for companionship on the ride to and from LA for the WBA Championships (November 16, etc). His lovely wife Nancy has abandoned him for the company of the students on the bus and he'd love to have someone to talk to on the long ride down. You'd get to ride in a Prius, so you'll be contributing to the care of the environment! (And he might let you drive it.) There is comfortable room for Clayton and 3 others. If you are interested, please call Clayton Newman or Nancy McGhee at 484-9749.

*** All that's Jazz - October 30, 2007 Carl & Marilyn Palowitch
Yes. 3, maybe 4. Yes. Possibly. A 33 year celebration of Jazz Education. You name it. Well, because - and yes, that too! If you need to ask, then---
These and other wonderful answers and information will be provided at the first general meeting of all Jazz Band parents on October 30, 2007, 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the Choir Room. These meetings are irregular, infrequent, even rare - so please plan to attend this one!
Our Jazz Band instructors, Mr. Aubel and Mr. Grantham will present the jazz band schedule of events and provide information on the jazz classes at AVHS.
Carl and Marilyn Palowitch will present plans for the 33rd Annual Campana Jazz Festival (aka CJF33) which will be held at Amador on Saturday, February 9, 2007. This year CJF33 will host up to 40 middle and high school jazz ensembles!
Not a Jazz Band parent? You are welcome to join the legions of fans of the Amador Valley Jazz Bands and come to the meeting, too!
We are looking forward to a full house in just one week - Tuesday, October 30! At the end of the meeting, please plan to stay and join us in the stadium to watch the evening's final run-through of the Marching Band field show.
