Embassy Suites for BOA Regionals! Roland Ellingsen
Last year, band parents sent a powerful message to the kids by having so many of us accompany the band to Southern California for their performance. Please join us again at the LA Coliseum Oct 27 -29, Friday PM – Sunday AM.
After discussion w/ a number of venues, we have contracted 85 suites at The Embassy Suites North, LAX. This hotel provided the most competitive rate w/ each room able to accommodate a family or four students. It also had the highest level of security and the best comfort level of those considered. The band will be using 60 of these rooms with 25 available for accompanying families/ supporting adults. To provide a perspective, we rented 100 rooms for last year’s event in Long Beach.
As most of you know, a standard rate for an Embassy Suite is $185 - $225 including tax. Our secured group rate is $130 including tax per evening. A full breakfast is also included for all persons staying at the hotel.
The hotel is 20-25 minutes from the performance venue and does provide a free shuttle from the airport if you elect to fly down. Parking is $10.00 per evening.
Please send an email or call (925) 895-1041 with the following information to Roland Ellingsen at roland.ellingsen@comcast.net
Note- Our contract calls for 2 evenings per room- Payment of $260 to be made to Amador Valley Friends of Music and is due by Friday, September 29. Please send checks to Roland Ellingsen – 2801 Victoria Ridge Court, Pleasanton, CA 94566.

RAs - Responsible Adults Trish Moosbrugger
*Over the next 11 weeks, we have 5 football games, 3 Saturday field show competitions and 2 weekend overnight trips. That translates into only 225 opportunities to volunteer as an RA! Sign up early and often to reserve your spot for the best seats in the house!
*If you'd like to help the RA's, but would prefer a "desk job", consider volunteering to be the snack coordinator. This position is responsible for assigning snack donations to the students and posting the snack donation list for the field show competitions. Make a cute sign for the band room and submit the list to the newsletter editor prior to each field show. This is an important job (think 200+ hungry teenagers) yet very simple to carry out each week.
*Check your email for a test message sent to all parents who completed a Volunteer screening form. If you haven't received the test message and would like to sign up to be an RA, contact Trish Moosbrugger: pmoosbrugger@comcast.net . or stop by the RA table at the Band Barbecue on Sept 16.
eScrip Update Laura Keller-Gum
If you're not already registered with eScrip, Albertsons and/or Nob Hill and Raleys, please remember that you can earn rebates towards your student account ABSOLUTELY FREE to you!
It looks like many of you already have your Safeway card registered with eScrip, but if you haven't updated your account recently, please do so. Now you can register your Macy's card as well as debit or credit cards, and eScrip also has an "On-Line Mall" and a Visa card available, so there are lots of ways to earn money!
Keeping your address, phone and e-mail info up to date at www.escrip.com also makes it easier to make changes in the future and to stay current with what they are offering. Remember you need to renew on-line every fall, by Nov. 1!
Albertsons' Preferred cards can also be registered to support AFM at www.albertsons.com. You may need to enter your zip code, then click on "In the Community" and "Community Partners" to get to the sign-up area.
Questions about Safeway/eScrip and Albertsons can be directed to Laura Keller-Gum, 461-9411, kellgumfam@comcast.net.
If you did not get a Nob Hill/Raleys "Quality of Life" rebate card at band registration and would still like one, please contact Leslie Finn,l.finn@comcast.net or 462-6778. If you're using one you registered at another school and you changed it to AFM on-line, be sure you let Leslie know your card number so she can get the funds credited to your student account. Nob Hill does not provide names on their reports, just card numbers! Thank you to everyone who requested a card at band registration. All cards were either mailed or sent home with students on the last day of band camp.
For all these programs, make sure our student accounts coordinator, Pam Sangiacomo at sangiacomo@comcast.net, is aware which names should be matched with which student's account so you get credit for your shopping! New Changes to the Band Calendar
There has been a change to the football calendar - the Pigskin Roast/Game has now been added on 9/29.
This is the same day as our band pictures. Since the band will already be present for photos and because the Pigskin Roast is one of the largest attended games, the band will be playing and will be dismissed after half-time.
The practice scheduled for 10/31 has been moved to MONDAY 10/30 still from 5-9.
This avoids interference for those families that may be trick-or-treating!
The calendar originally showed a football game on Friday 11/10. There is no school on that day due to Veteran's Day.
The game is actually scheduled for THURSDAY 11/9 vs. Foothill.
There are new marching sectionals scheduled on the calendar.
These are once-a-month per section on Thursdays from 3:30-5:30. Please check the web for details. The band used to have additional practices on Fridays the weeks of competitions. These marching sectionals with the marching staff will take the place of those Friday rehearsals. Check the Marching Band Calendar at www.amadorband.org for information.
