Jon Grantham
Welcome back. Coming off a great week of band camp (we all survived!) the band and guard is ready for what is promising to be their best season yet. It has been great to see all of the early season parent support at the end of practices. Keep on coming (and feel free to cheer!)
Calendar changes: Please note there have been some changes/additions to the calendar.
*There has been a change to the football calendar with the Pigskin Roast/game added on 9/29. This is the same day as our band pictures. Since the band will already be present for photos and because the Pigskin Roast is one of the largest attended games, the band will be playing and will be dismissed after half-time.
*The practice scheduled for 10/31 has been moved to MONDAY 10/30 still from 5-9. This avoids interference for those families that may be trick-or-treating!
*The calendar originally showed a football game on Friday 11/10. There is no school on that day due to Veteran's Day. The game is actually scheduled for THURSDAY 11/9 vs. Foothill.
*There are new marching sectionals scheduled on the calendar. These are once-a-month per section on Thursdays from 3:30-5:30. Please check the web for details. The band used to have additional practices on Fridays the weeks of competitions. These marching sectionals with the marching staff will take the place of those Friday rehearsals.
As always, if you have any questions please drop a line or a phone call.
Have a great start to the school year!
Jon Grantham Director of Bands Amador Valley High School 1155 Santa Rita Rd. Pleasanton, CA 94566 Office:925.461.6196 Laundry Day Request! someone's missing
Now that band camp is over, please check your clothing to make sure that you have your own. With 200 identical Amador shirts and sweats being left around the band room and football field, it looks like a few have been mixed and matched (or unmatched as the case may be!) Thanks! Hosts for Grantham Dawn Giammona & Jon Grantham
A big "Thank-you" to all interested in hosting Mr. Grantham for dinner. There were many responses. More date availability would have been welcomed to calendar all of the requests.
One dinner involved 3 families collectively enjoying a meal with him. An idea to consider should this opportunity present itself again.
Dawn-Marie Giammona
And a special thanks from your well fed band director. I had a great time enjoying home cooked food, the company of students and family as well as a much needed break from my band office! The generosity (and cooking talents) of our band family continually amazes and energizes me!
Jon Grantham Important Information Regarding Marching Band Uniforms Kimberly Ansell
Dear Parents and Marcing Band Students,
Upon receipt of the uniform, the pants will need to either be hemmed by hand at home or sent to a qualified seamstress or drycleaner for hemming. A list of qualified vendors is included with your contract and can be found in this week’s newsletter. Uniform pants are NEVER to be cut for ANY REASON!
A shoe order will be placed for all incoming freshmen as well as students who need replacement shoes. A fee of $30.00 will be charged the student account at that time.
The uniform contract will need to be signed and returned to Mr. Grantham’s office no later than Friday, September 15th or turned in at inspection, also to be held on Friday, September 15th, just prior to the first AVHS football game.
If you should have any questions or comments about this process, or should require additional information, please contact Kimberly Ansell, Uniform Coordinator 2006-2007 at KimberlyAnsell@comcast.net or 925-484-2847.
Annual BBQ and Potluck Coming Up! Kevin Braun
Saturday, September 16th after the Band rehearsal (about 6pm)
Well, it's that time again fellow band and colorguard parents. Time to dig out and brush off those favorite desserts and salads of yours to share in our annual Barbeque and Potluck. All band and colorguard members along with their families are welcome. Each family please bring something to share with your fellow band and colorguard parents. Hot dogs and hamburgers will be provided.
Families with last names beginning with A-M: Salads N-Z: Desserts
A student run fundraiser, sponsered by the Student Band Council, will be selling water and sodas for $1.00.
Remember to put your name on your dish/bowl/plate/utensils if you want to get them back. You may pick up what's left of your specialty when you leave the event.
I still need volunteers to help out with the following: - 2 helpers for Food Purchase and Pickup - 3 helpers for Eating Area Prep (a couple of burley types too, those lunch tables are heavy!!) - 3 helpers for Cleanup Crew (again, a couple for moving those heavy tables back)
If you would like to help out, contact Kevin Braun via e-mail kbraun@sbcglobal.net or phone 510.333.0616
