Wow, wow and more wow is all I can say about the 2006 edition of the AVHS Marching Band and Colorguard. As I write this at my desk at 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening I am glowing with the excitement of what is shaping up to be a truly memorable season. Please come and support the band by attending the last 30-45 minutes of any of our rehearsals. It really is fun and can be a great way to "learn" where your child is on the field before they put on the uniform and look like everyone else! There is something special in the air about "Alcatraz" and I hope to see all of you! Best of luck with the start of the school year and thank you for all of your support. If you missed band registration, please turn in your registration forms as soon as possible. They can be dropped in the AFM box which is on the wall in the band room. If you have any questions, please contact Nalanda Bowman at 426-5093 or philbowman@comcast.net. RA's - Responsible Adults Trish Moosbrugger
Wow, what a great response from all the parents. We turned in more than 100 volunteer forms to the Amador office for processing! I'll be scheduling RA signups for each football game and bus trip via email, about 10 days before each event. Don't forget to stop by the RA table at the band barbecue to say hi, ask any questions, and verify your preferred email address. Trish Moosbrugger pmoosbrugger@comcast.net. Need A Volunteer on October 6th Steve Ethier
Jeff Asbury has kindly towed the small(er) flatbed trailer to marching band competitions for the last several years. He's planning on helping us again this year. However, Jeff cannot attend the first competition of this year on October 6 so, we need to find someone willing to tow the flatbed trailer on that date. Unlike the large band trailer, you *do* use your personal vehicle to tow the flatbed trailer. If you can help us out, please contact Paul Walker at walkerpcc@comcast.net Or Steve Ethier at slethier@pacbell.net (426-2460). Important Information Regarding Marching Band Uniforms Kimberly Ansell
Dear Parents and Marcing Band Students,
Upon receipt of the uniform, the pants will need to either be hemmed by hand at home or sent to a qualified seamstress or drycleaner for hemming. A list of qualified vendors is included with your contract and can be found in this week’s newsletter. Uniform pants are NEVER to be cut for ANY REASON!
A shoe order will be placed for all incoming freshmen as well as students who need replacement shoes. A fee of $30.00 will be charged the student account at that time.
The uniform contract will need to be signed and returned to Mr. Grantham’s office no later than Friday, September 15th or turned in at inspection, also to be held on Friday, September 15th, just prior to the first AVHS football game.
If you should have any questions or comments about this process, or should require additional information, please contact Kimberly Ansell, Uniform Coordinator 2006-2007 at KimberlyAnsell@comcast.net or 925-484-2847. Attention Students Kimberly Ansell

Well, it's that time again fellow band and colorguard parents. Time to dig out and brush off those favorite desserts and salads of yours to share in our annual Barbeque and Potluck. All band and colorguard members along with their families are welcome. Each family please bring something to share with your fellow band and colorguard parents. Hot dogs and hamburgers will be provided.
Families with last names beginning with A-M: Salads N-Z: Desserts
A student run fundraiser, sponsered by AFM will be selling water and sodas for $1.00 Please put your name on your dish/bowl/plate/utensils if you want to get them back. You may pick up what's left of your specialty when you leave the event.
I am also looking for a group of volunteers to help out with the following: - Food Purchase and Pickup - Eating Area Prep (a couple of burley types too, those lunch tables are heavy!!) - Flipping and Cooking over the BBQ - Cleanup Crew (again, a couple for moving those heavy tables back)
We had a great crew of volunteers last year and had a fun time doing it. If you would like to help out, contact Kevin Braun via e-mail kbraun@sbcglobal.net or phone 510.333.0616
