Welcome Back!

We hope everyone had a wonderful summer vacation and we look forward to seeing you all this week! Starting today, the week is full of band related activities, so check out the calendar below to make sure you are not missing anything.
Adopt Our Band Director For Dinner Opportunity

Dawn Giammona

From Saturday, 8/19/06 to Saturday, 8/26/06 the Band Camp Schedule is 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Mr. Grantham’s trek home takes him to San Francisco.

The Dinner Break time is 3:00 to 5:00. For anyone interested, this is an ideal opportunity to see that our beloved Band Director is well-nourished. Add one more to your dinner plans, whatever they may be; a meal at your home, brought in to the school or at a restaurant.

At 9:00 p.m. when we are all going home somewhere in Pleasanton, Mr. Grantham has a long drive ahead. What a nice way to show our appreciation for all of the time he invests in our students. Rumor has it, he is wonderful dinner company and has impeccable table manners.

As dates are limited, it will be on a first come basis. Those interested please email Dawn Giammona at grtfl5@sbcglobal.net and I will try to accommodate your request. Please include a form of contact to reach you at and the date of interest. Thank-you.

Freshman Parent and New Incoming Parent Meeting

Carol Ghinazzi

The Freshman Parent and New Incoming Parent Meeting will be held in the choir room, adjacent to the band room. The meeting is from 7-8 PM, tonight, Wednesday, August 16th.

Mr. Grantham, members of the AFM Board, and your freshman liaison will be there to welcome you, provide information and answer questions regarding the band program and upcoming year. You will not be solicited to volunteer (at this time!)... so please come join in meeting some of your fellow freshman and new band parents.

Annual Barbeque & Potluck Coming Up!

Kevin Braun

Saturday, September 16th after the Band rehearsal (about 6pm)

Well, it's that time again fellow band and colorguard parents. Time to dig out and brush off those favorite desserts and salads of yours to share in our annual Barbeque and Potluck. All band and colorguard members along with their families are welcome. Each family please bring something to share with your fellow band and colorguard parents. Hot dogs and hamburgers will be provided.

Families with last names beginning with A-M: Salads N-Z: Desserts

A student run fundraiser, sponsered by AFM will be selling water and sodas for $1.00 Please put your name on your dish/bowl/plate/utensils if you want to get them back. You may pick up what's left of your specialty when you leave the event.

I am also looking for a group of volunteers to help out with the following:
- Food Purchase and Pickup
- Eating Area Prep (a couple of burley types too, those lunch tables are heavy!!)
- Flipping and Cooking over the BBQ
- Cleanup Crew (again, a couple for moving those heavy tables back)

We had a great crew of volunteers last year and had a fun time doing it. If you would like to help out, contact Kevin Braun via e-mail kbraun@sbcglobal.net or phone 510.333.0616

See you there!!!

Wanted: Drivers to tow the large band trailer.

Steve Ethier

Do you like the smell of diesel in the morning? Are you the first to arrive at a party and the last to leave? Have you ever wondered if you could drive for hours on end at 60 MPH? Have we got the job for you!

AFM is recruiting drivers to tow the large band trailer so that one person does not have to do it all the time. We lost our primary driver at the end of last year because his son graduated, hence the need to get some new drivers. You will not use your personal vehicle to tow the trailer, AFM rents a truck for this purpose. If you have towed a boat or jet ski trailer, you can easily learn how to tow this trailer. Contact Steve Ethier at slethier@pacbell.net or 426-2460 if you are interested in learning more about this.
