Freshman Newsletter - August 2006

Hello again Freshman and New Incoming Band Parents,

I want to thank all of you who have written with additional requests for information.I hope to answer a few more questions for you as you enter the wonderful world of manilla packets and forms to be filled out.

Hopefully, you have received 2 packets of information. The first is the packet regarding Freshman Walk -Thru Registration. That registration for Amador school is Tuesday August 15th for all freshmen. That process does not include the band registration.

Amador Band Registration times are listed on the outside of the Band Registration Packet. If you are dropping off your student on Thursday,August 17th for freshman band camp, you can register from 8:30-9:30 or 3:30-4:30. The other options are on Friday August 18th. same times. Please have the paper work filled out, forms signed and ready to turn in along with the marching band fees. AND don't forget to download the band handbook from the website which needs to be read, signed and returned by the last day of band camp.

Some additional information for those inquiring minds who want to know:

* Where are do all these activities we have been hearing about occur...
Band Camp, registration, the uniform fittings, the freshman parent meeting etc all take place on Amador campus in the music building. Enter the front parking lot off Santa Rita and enter through the gates by the swimming pool.Turn right after the pool and head toward the back of campus. You will see, and usually hear.. the band room. It is a beautiful building where our phenomenal band, choir and music programs are located.

The Freshman Parent Meeting will be held in the choir room, adjacent to the band room. The meeting is from 7-8 PM in the choir room, adjacent to the band room. Mr. Grantham, members of the AFM Board and your freshman liaison will be there to welcome you, provide information and answer questions regarding the band program and upcoming year. You will not be solicited to volunteer (at this time!)... so please come join in meeting some of your fellow freshman and new band parents.

* How and where do the kids eat during the band camp days?
There are 2 breaks during band camp. The lunch break is an hour and is from around 11:30 or 12. The exact time will be determined by Mr. Grantham per field use etc. Typcially students either, bring their lunch and eat on campus or head downtown for a quick lunch.
The dinner break will start between 3:00 and 4:00. Dinner break is for 2 hours. Many students head home and get a good meal to rest and refuel for the evening practice. The schedule varies slightly each day due to the football schedule in the stadium and the needs of the staff for the days schedule.
Wonderful volunteeers will be available during band registration and the freshman parent meeting to answer any questions you might have. Please do not hesitate to stop and ask if you are not sure about something.

We are all looking forward to meeting you and welcoming you to the wonderful world of
Marching Band and Color Guard !
