Jazz Band Carpools Needed!
On Wednesday April 9 two drivers are needed to help the Jazz Combo get toand from a gig at Castlewood. The time frame is 11:00 am to 12:45 pm.
Also, both Jazz A and Jazz B will be competing at the CSU East Bay Jazz Festival and will need parent drivers for the musicians and equipment. Drivers must have turned in proper insurance clearance with the district (this can be done easily through the school office).
Jazz A will be departing from AVHS approximately 12:30 pm and arriving back approximately 3:30. Jazz B will be departing AVHS approximately 2:00 pm and arriving back approximately 5:00. Please e-mail at jgrantham@pleasanton.k12.ca.us if you can help get our musicians to the gig on time! Thanks in advance.
Congrats to the winterguards! On March 22, the AVHS winterguard brought home a 3rd place finish in the Scholastic AA division and the Harvest Park guard earned 2nd place in the Scholastic Regional A division (this is the highest finish ever for the HPMS guard-they even beat 3 high school groups!)

Magic of Music Countdown: 24 days!
Marilyn Palowitch
Dear AFM Families, Lo and behold, it's April! How did that happen? And the Magic of Music is only 24 days away. I woke up to that little fact today when I mentioned to our fearless leader, Dianne Jones, that "she has plenty of time. The MOM is 2 months away!" Whoops. Dianne (and a second cup of coffee) set me straight quickly. 24 days! Still plenty of time to get your tickets, so do it, now! Even more though, please consider inviting someone who is outside of the immediate AFM family to attend with you. If MOM were just about AFM families raising money for AFM, we might find an easier way to do it. But it's much more than that. The MOM is much bigger than AFM. It is about the greater community who supports music education. It is an opportunity to pull out all the stops, thank our supporters, feature our students, toast to their success and inspire the continued support of the community for years to come. Yes, it is a fundraiser - that's essential. But we make it Magical! So who do you know in this greater community? A former band member? The parents of a middle school band student? The parents of a new horn player in fifth grade? The private instrument instructor who has spent hours teaching and mentoring your student? The football parent who comes to hear the band, too! The next door neighbor who so graciously compliments your student's practice commitment, when you know what they are really telling you is that they heard your student playing at 11:00 pm last night? How about other family members? One of your musician's favorite grade school teachers? The business professional who sincerely shows an interest in your children and the band? We all know someone who might say "Yes! I'd love to join you!" It's time to invite them! You and your guests will be happy you attended. The students are front and center providing live music during the Silent Auction, Dinner and Dance. Parents and students provide the logistical support with flair, and our Auctioneer keeps the Live Auction, well, lively! The auctions are always entertaining and suspenseful, whether or not you are a winning bidder. Emily Post would have you issuing invitations to a big event at least 3 weeks in advance. It's time! Don't let the calendar Fool you! Happy April, everyone! Marilyn Palowitch Magic of Music Live Music Support * * * * * * * * Make the Magic of Music Event a Success! Volunteer Today! Trish Moosbrugger And the list keeps growing - Thanks to Annette Sebastian, Hallie Wake, Kimberly Ansell, Andrea & William Burnham, and Sheryl & Ken Morgan - who are the latest parents to volunteer at the Magic of Music event. So far, parents of the Freshman and Sophomore classes are making a real statement about the future of the program by stepping forward early and often. I'd love to hear from a few more Junior and Senior parents. Most of the spots are filled, we just need a few more helping hands in a few key places and we'll be set for the event.
We welcome your support and commitment whether or not you plan to attend the event, and we'll help you to find a role that fits your interests and time constraints.
Won't you consider these two spots?
Wheel of Fortune- need a few adults to take short shifts. You'll have student helpers, and we already have volunteers working on wine donations. This is the perfect job if you want to support the effort, but also want to attend the event. I'd say it's the kind of laid-back, easy-going job a couple of Junior or Senior parents could have some fun with.
Responsible Adult to chaperone the student helpers- You'll share shifts with Ken and Sheryl Morgan and provide an adult presence in the student volunteer check-in room during the event. This is a great job for someone who is not planning on attending the event.
I look forward to hearing from you!
