*** IMPORTANT LONDON UPDATES:

Linda Ethier

We are going to separate the regular AFM Weekly Newsletter from the London newsletter beginning next week. If you are on the London Newsletter List you should have received a separate Newsletter today!
If not, please respond to this email so I can add you to our list.

*** IMPORTANT LONDON FLIGHT INFORMATION
Cindy Gehl

If you plan to arrange your own roundtrip airfare for your student to London, we need to know ASAP.

Currently we show that the following families are taking advantage of this option: Ludington, Miller, Sheppard, Worth and Toy. If your name is not included on this list and you are taking the "land only" option, or your name is on the list in error let me know. The "land only" option will reduce your base price to $1700 (down from $2200). Youth Music must know that you are exercising this option upon signing the contract. Once the contract is signed, changes cannot be made.

*** IMPORTANT CHAPERONE INFORMATION
Cindy Gehl

Chaperones who would like a private hotel room in London may pay an additional $450 to do so. Please let me know ASAP if you would like to take advantage of this option. gehl4s@pacbell.net

E-Scrip Update:
Laura Keller-Gum

Hey band families, remember that eScrip registration is probably the easiest way to bring funds into your student account and AFM!

I'm now getting the reports from last fall, and it looks as though we have a large number of band families who aren't registered or who aren't receiving very much money from eScrip.

If you shop at Safeway at all, please register your grocery cards to get rebates. Even if you don't shop there, you can register credit or debit cards and get rebates from participating merchants.

Also, the eScrip Visa can provide you up to 2% rebates on all your purchases. If you're already registered, please go to www.escrip.com and make sure all of your cards are listed correctly and that you have renewed your Safeway registration.

I tried to renew as many as possible using the phone numbers and e-mail addresses I have from the AFM lists, but there were quite a few names that aren't on the AFM lists ! I am not sure if they are supposed to be linked to current band families. I believe most of these people are alumni, but if you have any question as to whether you or your relatives or your friends are actually earning rebates for your student's account, please contact me and I will find out!

You should also check that your rebates are going where you want them to go.... I find that families sometimes signed up with several different programs (AFM, Boosters, other schools) and often the last program ends up getting all the money instead of funds being split correctly. Thanks! -- Laura Keller-Gum 461-9411 kellgumfam@comcast.net

Amador winter groups earn top honors- Congratulations!

Winter Percussion walked away with a 1st place finish in Scholastic Open at the Independence contest this weekend and the Winterguard finished 2nd in Scholastic "AA". Both groups turned in fine performances-well done!

*** Amador Wind Ensembles shine!

Wind Ensemble I and Wind Ensemble II both participated in one of the regions most prestigious concert band festivals. No ratings or scores are given at this event, but both groups received high praise for their outstanding performances. Wind Ensemble I received the comment from a college band director that their performance was on par with any college group he had heard. Thank you to Lynn and Bob Gatehouse, Helen Zhang, Brian Fletcher, Jody Harcourt and Laurel Stjern for chaperoning the event.

*** Upcoming Events:
March 8: CMEA Solo and Ensemble (voluntary participation)
March 8: Winterguard in competition at Oak Grove High School
March 15: Winterguard/winter percussion at WGI regionals in Hayward and Union City
March 17: Harvest Park/Amador Wind Ensembles in concert at the Bankhead Theater

MOM Volunteer Needs:
Trish Moosbrugger

Hey gang - great news about Magic of Music - with 7 weeks to go, most Team Leader positions are filled, and the event is really beginning to take shape! Sophomore and Freshman parents are lining up to become part of the tradition. Don't miss out on all the fun! Take a look at these remaining positions and let me know if one of them is right for you! Drop me an email, or let me know what you think at the AFM meeting this Thursday night.

"Wheel of Fortune" - Release your inner "Vanna White"!

You'll have parent and student helpers. The Wheel will be provided. You will be responsible for formatting the Wheel (templates provided)
and solicitating for some more prizes (we already have some) like bottles of wine, gift certificates, coupons etc. You just make sure that Wheel keeps spinnin'! Your job will be finished in plenty of time to enjoy dinner and the live auction.

"Top Teetotaler"-
One or two sober night owls needed to supervise late shift students (and plenty of enthusiastic parent helpers) to ensure no valuables are left behind at the Hilton. Attend the event and stay to supervise, or arrive fresh and ready to work at about 10:30pm.

"Emily Post"- Such profuse expressions as "divine," "awfully," "petrified," "too sweet," "too wonderful," are purposely inserted" Emily Post (1873-1960). Etiquette. 1922.

Head up the preparation and distribution of up to 200 Thank You letters to donating businesses. Work can begin before the event and wrap up the week following. Flexible schedule, helpers provided.

Look forward to seeing you all at the AFM meeting on Thursday night! Trish. pmoosbrugger@comcast.net

MOM Student Donations!
Ann Fischer

On Thursday March 6, I will be speaking to the students about their donations for the "Magic of Music".

Freshmen parents, each year as our one major fundraiser approaches, we ask all the band and colorguard students to help the auction by
donating a service or tangible item to be auctioned off at the "Magic of Music".

Beforehand, please discuss with your child what would be appropriate for them to donate considering all the factors that involve your child directly. Help them brainstorm. I am hoping to get groups of students to volunteer together.

Many donations do not have to be bought, as services are a big seller. Some suggestions are window washing, weeding, dog walking,
house sitting, baked goods etc.

Gift baskets are another way students can collaborate: Prom basket, spa basket, band camp meals, band camp tools, movie night, dinner and a movie, the ideas are endless.

It would help me if your chid came to school with an idea and who they could work with. It would make the process a lot easier.

After Thursday, I will be e-mailing every parent with what your child has offered to donate. You are the final word on all their donations. If you have any questions at all, feel free to call me at 426-1324 or e-mail at fischbowl@mac.com.

Help the Magic of Music and Your Business!
Cindy Gehl

Are you looking for a way that you can contribute to the Magic of Music? One way is to purchase an ad in the auction catalog. There are various ad sizes available ranging from $25 for a business card size ad up to $125 for a full page ad. The proceeds from the ads are used to cover the cost of printing the auction catalog. Don't have a business? Why not sell an ad to a friend or other business owner. Ad forms are available on the band website and will also be available at the AFM meeting on March 6. If you would like further information, please contact Cindy Gehl at gehl4s@pacbell.net or 426-1481.

Shhhhhhhhh! Have you heard about the Silent Auction at Magic of Music?
Laurel Stjern & Janice Maurer

Well, besides all the bootleg, food and jazz, there's something to do that is just the bee's knees. Get a wiggle on and stroll through the silent auction where you'll find some real McCoy articles to bid on and hopefully win. Just to give you a little taste of some of the swanky items up for auction, try bidding on a hot air balloon ride for two or even a Lake Tahoe sunset dinner cruise for two. Now, wouldn't that be the cat's meow? So bring your dough and join us at the Silent Auction where you may end up driving home with the niftiest item in the joint!

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact Janice Maurer or Laurel Stjern.
