Pam Sangiacomo called the meeting to order at 7:10 p.m.
1. President’s Report – Pam Sangiacomo: Pam reminded members to check the calendar regularly for any changes to the band schedule.
Upcoming dates and schedule changes: 11/3 – Isabel Papp is running a CPR class/ Certification 10am-1pm 11/5 – Marching Band Practice 5 to 7 11/6 – Marching Band Practice 5 to 7 This meeting open to all, not just continuing guard members 11/6 – Winter guard information meeting – 11/9 – BOA – meet at 3:30 with departure around 4:00 11/13 – Tuesday – Friends & Family Performance 6:30 11/16 – Championships will depart in the morning- Kids will be missing school Itineraries and packing suggestions will be in this week’s newsletter. 12/1 – Holiday Parade 12/8 – Jazz Bands at Sac. State 12/11 – Winter Concert at Bankhead Theater in Livermore 1/10 – Jazz A, choir, orchestra
Ski Swap – made about $2,200. Some people are interested in being part of a committee to help organize it last year.
2. Treasurer’s Report – Paulette Callahan: · Paulette announced that all rooms for the LA Competitions are paid for · She reminded AFM members to make sure they get purchases okayed before spending AFM dollars. · Even if you are donating time and expenses, she would appreciate the same form being filled out, so the board can accurately budget for future spending.
3. VP of Fundraising - Dianne Jones: · Dianne asked that everyone get involved with Magic of Music whether it be donating time/items for auction, etc. · MOM this year will have a theme: Roaring 20’s/Great Gatsby (period dress optional) · This year there will be champagne on arrival (instead of waiting in line for open bar hour) · More workers are being planned for check out to speed up the process · Will get packets out in January/February and move full steam ahead at that point. There will be forms in the packet to request donations from local business. The form will also be available on the website for anyone who wants to get a jump-start on donation. · Bill Brown has already begun working on community donations. · Last year’s MOM made $46,000.00 · Suggestions from the AFM membership included two tier tickets (ability to pay for drinks and be present for silent auction, but not have to pay for dinner/dance/live auction portion of the evening), and dance lessons from a local group, “All About Dance” with period dancing demo at MOM (ie: Charleston)
4. Head RA – Trish Moosbrugger: · RA meeting for LA trips this Saturday · Mark Garrett requested chairs for senior dinner at championships. Road Warriors decided to do a trial run on BOA weekend to see how many could be taken.
5. Winter Percussion Liaison – Roland Ellingsen: · Kick off for this year’s season at Roland’s ranch on December 7th or 14th. · Last year winter percussion grew from 20 to 34 students – expecting similar number this year. · Competition throughout February and March
6. Campana Jazz Festival – Marilyn Palowitch: · 1st meeting for Campana was last week · This is the 33rd year of the festival – The educational component of the event (run by Amador) will be on February 9th from 7am- 7pm. The event, itself, is being expanded into a “4 Days of Jazz” Festival, by partnering with the Downtown Assoc. (who will include Jazz Combos during their “Truffles, Tidbits & Wine” event on Thursday evening); the Civics Arts Program (who is planning on a concert with Ravi Coltrane on Saturday); and the Pleasanton Library (who will host 2-3 student combos on Sunday) · Last year there were 24 ensembles at 2 venues, this year 34 ensembles at 3 venues are planned. · This year there will be a new division for combos and an exhibition division for vocal groups. · Need advertisers for Campana programs (Dec. 15th cut off date) · Jobs will be posted in the newsletter, highlighting a special need each week
